<image:title>Home - Hello, I’m Jenna.</image:title>
<image:caption>I am an applied researcher, evaluator, youth worker and educator dedicated to advancing equity with and for young people, their families, schools, and communities. I have always loved learning about others through their stories. When I began my career in youth work over two decades ago, one of my favorite pastimes was just to sit and listen to young people when they’d flop down on my office couch after school to tell me about their day. Running youth programs for years led me to want to deepen my practice and I landed at the University of Minnesota where I joined the Youth Development Leadership Master’s of Education program and then continued my studies to receive a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Family, Youth, and Community. I found that my love of listening to and making sense of stories could be grounded in an applied research and evaluation practice.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I was a youth worker as a young person myself, working at a summer day camp where I taught art and photography to younger people. In high school, I had formative experiences through a program called Project Success, an organization that empowers young people to connect to their purpose and turn their dreams into action. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was experiencing really well-executed youth development programming that incorporated youth voice, agency, fun, and growth - and those ideas stuck with me, even before I had the language to describe them that way.</image:caption>

<image:caption>One of my favorite childhood memories was watching the Sunday afternoon “Children’s Time” show in Ethiopia, hosted by one of the most respected storytellers and TV personalities of that era, Ababa Tesfaye. All the neighborhood kids would gather in front of the TV, transfixed and inspired by “Yeteret Abat” (Father of Storytelling). Unconstrained in our minds by a small black and white TV, he weaved vibrant tales and vivid illustrations. He had a unique talent of telling the same story through the eyes of many characters—protagonist and antagonist—indelibly underlining in our young minds the essential role different perspectives play in forming and cementing societal narratives.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I am a child of the marsh, born and raised on the stolen lands of the Dakota and Anishinaabe people. I am a queer cis-woman with white privilege who grew up with a curiosity for the natural world and a caring heart. I spent many of my young years learning how to connect to people and the world and how not just to love others, but to love myself—and let’s be honest, learning self-compassion is a lifelong journey. I received my B.S. in biology, with minors in chemistry and film production, from the University of Oregon. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I worked as a freelance writer & editor, youth worker, outdoor educator, and independent living specialist. These years were highly formative, both professionally and personally, because I got more involved in social justice initiatives. First with the LGBTQIA+ movement (Vote No Campaign) and then with the Black Lives Matter movement (after the murder of Jamar Clark).</image:caption>

<image:caption>Janyesha Jackson is a dedicated youth worker and advocate. They value data-informed decision-making, seeing it as a powerful tool to cultivate connections. As an artist and adept communicator, she seamlessly weaves this approach with their core values: integrity, creativity, and collaboration. Guided by the belief that art and storytelling has the power to heal, Janyesha actively engages in facilitating intergenerational learning opportunities, viewing them as essential to the liberation of marginalized communities. In every endeavor, she contributes to the community, data tells a story, and connections thrive. Janyesha, hailing from Saint Paul's historic Rondo community, discovered her passion for youth programs early in life. Starting as a participant in a neighborhood program herself, they progressed to become a Program Director at a Boys and Girls club, navigating the pressure to adopt a more authoritative and hierarchal stance. Instead, Janyesha connects with youth deliberately, gathering insights alongside youth, without dismissing their connections as childish.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Carley is originally from outside of Chicago, but her career began in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she spent 13 years cultivating her skills and passion for program evaluation and data visualization. Her interest in evaluation started when she worked for a nonprofit in Minneapolis that supported the work of artists with disabilities. There was always a need to communicate the organization’s impact, but rarely the resources to design sustainable methods to collect, analyze, or visualize data insights about program outcomes. This need led Carley to pursue a Master’s in Public Policy from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs where her focus was Nonprofit Management and Program Evaluation. After graduating, Carley worked as an in-house program evaluator for a nonprofit that supported young adults with autism in their pursuit of independent, community-integrated lives. During her seven years in this role, she gained valuable experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to design effective data management systems and ensure the results were accessible and understandable to diverse populations. Carley has since moved back to Chicago to be closer to her family and continue to work as a data analysis consultant.</image:caption>
